Arne Jacobsen originally designed the Station Clock (1941) for Lauritz Knudsen, a manufacturer of electric switches and dimmers in Denmark. Featuring easy-to-read numbers and two-tone hands, this clock features the simplicity and elegance for which Jacobsen is known. The alarm is a pleasant sounding bell – very old school – and snooze is activated with a light tap on the top of the clock. To see what time it is during the night, tap the top for a touch-sensor LED light that automatically shuts off. The Station Clock features a precision quartz movement powered by two AA batteries (not included). This is an authentic Arne Jacobsen clock manufactured by Rosendahl Timepieces. Made in China.

“I am excited about shapes and structures,” says Danish designer Herbert Krenchel. “The surface on a design object is important because it makes people want to reach out for it.” His hand-finished Krenit Bowl (1950s), with a bold colored interior that pops against a matte black exterior, serves as an inviting vessel for all sorts of items. Its utility and form are purposeful: “I also believe that there has to be a balance between function and aesthetics,” continues Krenchel. “A good design must therefore contain more than one aspect to make the perfect overall impression.” Krenchel’s now-iconic Krenit (a combination of his name and Eternit, the name of a fiber cement he used in his work) was the recipient of the gold medal at the 1954 Milan Triennial. Introduced in the early ’50s, the bowl was produced until 1966 and reintroduced by Normann Copenhagen in 2008. The Danish design company has stayed true to Krenchel’s specifications, finishing each piece by hand, but has updated the interior material from hard-to-maintain enamel to durable and lightweight melamine. The food-safe Krenit maintains its steel exterior – it was conceptualized before the advent of microwaves, after all – so be sure not to nuke it. Not dishwasher safe or for use with steel utensils. Clean by hand with warm water, then wipe thoroughly. We recommend oiling the edges regularly to prevent rust. Made in Denmark.

Atle Tveit and Lars Tornøe design furniture and utilitarian objects, some of which can be found in the residence of the Norwegian Prime Minister. Both designers received their Master’s degree in furniture and spatial design from the Bergen National Academy of the Arts, and one of their first projects – the Coatrack Dots (2007) – earned them Norway’s Young Talent Award in 2007. Working from their studio in Norway, Tveit and Tornøe are guided by one single belief: that the only products that should exist are those that have unique properties. They are passionate about separating the necessary from the unnecessary, and in the case of their Coatrack Dots, they have distilled the common coatrack to its most basic elements, namely the hooks. Arrange the Dots however you like – “being a very social set of hooks,” say the designers, “the Dots love to welcome other Dots to join them on the wall.” The round edges will treat your clothes with the greatest care, and “the only thing the Dots demand from you is that you uncover them every now and then to admire their shape and material.” Made in Slovenia. One set includes 3 small, 1 medium and 1 large.DWR Exclusive

Spectrum Throw

Spectrum Throw

In 1723, a cooperative mill was started in County Wicklow, Ireland, where farmers could spin and weave their wool into tweeds and blankets. All the yarn was uncolored at first, but then the farmers started experimenting with natural vegetable dyes, and soon the mill’s output was livened with reds, greens and yellows. After thriving for more than two centuries, the business ran into trouble. By 1960, the looms had been abandoned, and the mill had fallen into disrepair. In the 1970s, a young family came upon an advertisement listing the property for sale, and the rest is history, as they say. Still overseen by that same family today, the mill has stayed true to its heritage, weaving premium rugs, throws and scarves out of wool, mohair, cotton and linen. The warm, luxurious Spectrum Throw (2012) is made using all-natural fibers and dyes, with a colorful pixel pattern. This blanket is great for throwing over the bed, a sofa or yourself. Comes packaged in an attractive gift box. Made in Ireland. DWR Exclusive

This pint-sized version of Verner Panton’s cantilevered stacking chair is identical to the original in material and shape, but is approximately 25% smaller. Panton toyed with the idea of creating a child-size chair back in the 1960s, and drew up plans for its creation. Back then, production issues made the Panton Junior financially unfeasible, however the following decades brought new plastics technologies, and in 2006, Vitra introduced the Panton Junior. The chair is based on Panton’s original plans, complete with the smooth curves and fun shape of the larger Panton Chair. It’s crafted as a single piece of strong, flexible polypropylene with integral color that will not fade over time. Wonderfully durable and easy to clean, the Panton Junior is suitable for contract and residential use for children in pre-school and primary grades.

In the 1990s, Danish designer Niels Hvass became a leader in the Nordic design scene by creating furniture that earned him awards and recognitions from Bo Bedre, Georg Jensen and The Design Foundation. He designed his teak Cutter Collection to challenge overly nostalgic wooden outdoor furnishings, bringing elegance and simplicity to outdoor spaces, as well as interior ones. Originally intended for gardens and patios, the Cutter Box (2008) is also fitting for kitchens and bathrooms. This piece features specially engineered mortise-and-tenon joints for durability. Like all teak products, it will develop a rich, silvery patina over time, or it can be treated with teak oil to maintain its original luster. Made in Thailand. Set on four casters, this rolling box fits underneath the Cutter Bench or Stool.
